Le cheval de bois (Bassoon)

The title “Le cheval de bois” (wooden horse, rocking horse) refers both to its rocking character and to the wooden instrument, the bassoon, for which this work was specially composed. We travel through the composition on horseback, first at a slow trotting pace, then in a stirring galloping section. As always, we return home with the opening theme. Both parts are characterized by one and the same motif, now in 12/8 time, then again in 4/4. Also available for trombone, euphonium, horn F and Eb, trumpet, bass tuba Eb and Bb, clarinet and bass clarinet.
