Integendeel, de verschillende manieren waarop de oorlog werd herdacht zouden het onderwerp van het stuk zijn. In 1920 publiceerde de Canadese luitenant-kolonel Henry Beckles Wilson een boek met de titel Ypres, Holy Ground of British Arms. Hij beschrijft de pittoreske stad Ieper zoals die er v\u00f3\u00f3r de oorlog uitzag en doet verslag van de drie \u2018veldslagen om Ieper\u2019. Ook bekritiseert hij (toen al!) de manier waarop mensen caf\u00e9s en bars begonnen te openen om winst te maken op het opkomende oorlogstoerisme. In het voorwoord van het boek suggereert de auteur sterk dat de ru\u00efnes van Ieper in hun huidige staat moeten worden behouden en dienen als openluchtmuseum en gedenkteken. De verwoeste stad zou zo getuigen van de oorlog en toekomstige generaties herinneren aan de schandalige jaren 1914-1918. De inwoners van Ieper toonden daarentegen grote moed en veerkracht en besloten de middeleeuwse stad zo getrouw mogelijk volgens de oorspronkelijke plannen te herbouwen. Uit de as ontstond een nieuwe en bloeiende stad.<\/p>\n<p>Tijdens de wereldwijde Covid-19-crisis in 2020 besefte componist Klaas Coulembier dat het begrip veerkracht relevanter dan ooit zou worden. Zelfs tijdens de crisis, toen mensen niet bij elkaar mochten komen, merkte hij hoe muzikanten heel creatief bleken te zijn om deze beperkingen te overwinnen. Ondanks de vele creatieve oplossingen keek iedereen er uiteraard naar uit om weer te kunnen spelen tijdens repetities en concerten, om elkaar in het echt te ontmoeten. &#8220;<em>Ik had er vertrouwen in dat mensen, vooral in deze contexten, snel troost zouden vinden in het weer samen muziek maken. Ik vond het originele verhaal van mijn compositie net zo relevant voor deze situatie en besloot een hercompositie te maken voor Brass Band, om de veerkracht van menselijke samenlevingen en individuen te vieren.<\/em>&#8221; dixit de componist. Intussen is de oorlogsdreiging actueler dan ooit, met verschillende conflicten in de wereld. Deze compositie is opgedragen aan iedereen die wordt geconfronteerd met de taak om een \u200b\u200bhuis, een land, een leven opnieuw op te bouwen, tijdens en na moeilijke tijden.
