Chiaroscuro

Chiaroscuro (1'50”) is a work for alto saxophone and piano, level L4. In this work Pieter Corten uses the dorian scale. This has both major and minor characteristics. Light and dark, hence: Chiaroscuro. The challenge of this work lies in the swing rhythm that is idiomatic to jazz-inspired music.

The work was written in the context of my composer residency at the non-profit organization De Luchtbrug and will serve as a compulsory work this year at the Aalst Academy of Performing Arts.
