“Explorer of an Epic World” was composed for the 18th birthday of Floris T'Jonck, a young man who loves adventure and is also an avid gamer. In many games the hero has a long road ahead of him, during which he has to defeat a lot of disaster, and that is very well reflected in this work.
The epic consists of three parts. In the first part, the hero sets out for a mysterious, yet unknown environment. This atmosphere is clearly shown by the trombones in a minor key. The hero gets more and more excited and searches more intensively in the wonderful world, as can be heard from the rhythmic motif of the high woodwinds.
Someone of 18 will certainly encounter love along the way. The horns herald the romantic second movement, followed by the flutes, clarinets and oboe, which return the intensity and rhythmic motif of the first movement.
The third movement, in major key, exudes action, adventure and joy. Danger lurks behind every corner. But nothing can stop the hero anymore. He conquers. As apotheosis, the minor theme of the first movement returns in major!
Close your eyes and dive into the game with the hero, on a journey of discovery to a magical unknown world full of adventure.
