Father's Waltz
€49.00
Pieter Corten: It is a rare event when a son gets the opportunity to write a work that is tailor-made for his father. When my father, André Corten, asked if I was interested in that, I didn't miss the opportunity.
When writing this work I also had in mind the concert band Da Capo, of which my father is a loyal member, then still led by Tom Coessens. This orchestra took care of the creation.
Father's Waltz is a nostalgic waltz with a unique line-up of baritone saxophone and concert band. The work is full of the lyricism that André loves so much, although here and there you can also hear passages that provide a nice contrast with these lilting lines.
This solo work is special in terms of instrumentation, but also in the fact that there are challenges for both the soloist and the orchestra.
The musical material is in no way a reflection of my father as a person, only his personal taste in the wonderful art called music.
