Onoma

Piet Swerts composed the overture “ONOMA – ονοµα” in honor of the silver jubilee (25 years) of Nico Logghe as conductor of the Royal Harmony Ypriana from Ypres (Belgium). The work had its first performance on 23/12/2017 in CC. the Platform in Ypres in the presence of the composer.

Piet Swerts: “We mainly know the word 'Onoma' in the context of the word 'onomatopoeia', onomatopoeia. Onoma comes from Ancient Greek and means 'name'. TWhen I was asked to compose a short work for the anniversary of Ypriana and her conductor Nico Logghe, the first idea that occurred to me was to base the musical material for this on two motifs that would be rhythmically the same if one were to mention the name of the orchestra or the conductor would say“.
