During the First World War the entire city of Ypres was reduced to rubble. Almost nothing remained of the medieval Cloth Hall and belfry tower. The Belfry was rebuilt between 1928 and 1934. To this day, the imposing tower adorns Ypres's Grote Markt, and it is in the shadow of the Belfry that several orchestras march past on their way to Ypres' Menin Gate. Under the Belfry evokes this atmosphere.
