Shine (Alto Clarinet)

Shine is a playful composition for alto clarinet and piano, in which the alto saxophone can fully shine! After a mysterious introduction by the piano, the alto saxophone takes the floor in an improvisatory passage. This is followed by a spicy Allegretto Spiritoso, in which the rhythmic accents in particular make it beautiful. Now and then the soloist can get a little jazzy, but the basic rhythm always remains just as tight.

After this exciting part, the soloist can catch his breath for a moment while the piano presents a calmer theme. The same theme is then reprized by the alto saxophone and leads to the fast-paced finale. This is dominated by asymmetrical time signatures, such as 2+2+3/8. The theme of the first fast movement returns briefly before the soloist concludes the work with a cadenza.
