Hooge Crater Hymn

Composed for the Royal Ypriana Wind Band Buglers, first performed on November 8 at the Hooge Crater Cemetery (Ypres)

In 2020, the Royal Ypriana Harmonie was unable to perform for the first time in many years during the annual ceremony at the Menin Gate on November 11. As an alternative memorial act, musicians visited several military cemeteries near home to have a short and quiet moment of reflection.

For this occasion, Klaas Coulembier – chairman of the Royal Harmony Ypriana – composed this short three-part piece, loosely based on the melody of the Last Post. It was performed at the Hooge Crater Cemetery in Zillebeke near Ypres.

The piece can be performed in any combination of instruments. The most common transpositions are included, but additional parts can be requested by the composer klaas.coulembier@ypress.eu
